Every winter, thousands flock to the premier destination of Aseer, the Muhayil Aseer Province, particularly drawn to its most celebrated traditional market, a hub in the Aseer region for those seeking a feast for the senses as they shop for essentials. Historically known as the Saturday Market, due to its once-a-week occurrence, traders from nearby cities and villages of Sarat and Tihama would gather, setting up their stalls early Saturday morning. As the market’s popularity and the quality of its offerings grew, along with improved accessibility, it evolved into a permanent fixture, open from dawn till midnight, welcoming both buyers and spectators alike.
Muhayil’s traditional market dazzles with its diversity and authenticity. Among its alleys and varied-sized booths, one finds local agricultural produce including fruits, vegetables, and aromatic plants, alongside traditional attire, jewelry, pottery, wooden wares, local honey, ghee, dates, and sweets. There are also stalls offering old agricultural and industrial tools, as well as building supplies.
Visitors can fully indulge in the market’s atmosphere, whether snapping photos, picking up unique souvenirs, or tasting local delicacies like Khameer bread, fenugreek, and Haneez, all while engaging in memorable conversations with the locals.
