Nestled in eastern Aseer, the ancient village of Al-Hawza—also known as Dhahran Al-Janoub Village—stands in Dhahran Al-Janoub Province as a verdant oasis rich in history and notable archaeological landmarks. This unique village features about a hundred homes, some reaching six stories, all constructed from clay and tree branches in a manner that has preserved them through the ages.
Al-Hawza is strategically placed near the fertile Wadi Al-Areen, encircled by a wall with three gateways, adjacent to a defensive platform (Qasbah) that historically protected the village. It boasts narrow, interconnected paths, an ancient well carved into rock, and the historic Al-Hawza Mosque.
Close to the village lies the bustling Dhahran Al-Janoub traditional market, a trading nexus that continues to draw merchants from afar, showcasing the area’s vibrant commercial and social life. The village’s prominence is further highlighted by its proximity to the ancient Elephant Path, surrounded by mountains adorned with ancient languages and animal drawings.
